Confirmation in the United Methodist tradition is a rite through which young Christians affirm the faith of the church, make or renew the vows of baptism, and commit to lives of discipleship as professing members of the United Methodist Church.  Parents and youth interested in preparing for Confirmation this spring are invited to an informal meeting on Sunday, Feb. 19, from 10:30-11:00am in room 128,(education wing, downstairs).  We'll discuss the class format, expectations for the program, and the Confirmation service.  Please contact Pastor Kathy with questions.

Haiti Medical Mission 2012

An awe-inspiring, amazing, perspective changing mission that for Chapel Hill UMC took place this year on January 19-January 27.  25 people from multiple congregations in Indiana came together under the leadership of Dr. Mark Fulton through the company Mission Haiti Medical to travel to St. Ard, Haiti.  The purpose of the trip was to provide medical and dental care and show God’s love to those in need.  The result was 1700 patients treated in 4 clinics held in villages all over Haiti. But it was much more complex than that. It was also friendships made over cleaning/organizing the dusty surgical suites and shared meals and hugs and silly photographs despite language barriers, tired feet, and seemingly hopeless situations.  It was the realization that God’s love is giving a meal to the hungry, a wheelchair to someone who can’t walk, preventative dental care and vitamins to children.  And in serving others we learned that sometimes all God requires of us is the willingness to get a little dirty and he will take care of the rest.

Alina Saucedo is a missionary with the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church serving as the mission finance auditor Central America and parts of South America and the Caribbean. She is based in Costa Rica. Her birthday is February 21.

She works with church leaders, mission partners and institutions, and Global Ministries personnel to ensure that mission funds are appropriately used and reports made in a timely manner.  She was commissioned in 2007, and worked in mission in her native Bolivia before taking her present position in 2010.  She comes from a family that has served the Methodist Evangelical Church in Bolivia for more than 40 years.  Both of her parents are pastors.

HELP!  We need your old paper!  We need to maintain an average of one and one half tons of paper, per month, in the recycle bin.  If we cannot do this, the bin will be removed.  We can use newspapers, magazines of all types, catalogs, brochures, paperback books, and any "fan" mail that you are going to toss.  We cannot take telephone books, cardboard, cereal boxes or soft drink cartons.  Please put a sack of recycle material in the trunk of your car each time you come to church-it will help us keep this service to the church and community!   ALSO, the money from all aluminum cans dropped off in the blue carts which are conveniently located in the parking lot will go toward helping our preschool!  THANK YOU!
